Over a decade has passed since A-1 Thee Assas’n dropped the volatile and iconic “Assassination Day”, and yet, the streets, the studios, and the playlists still echo its impact. Released in 2013, the Mix-EP wasn't just a return—it was a reckoning. Exploding back onto the music scene after a gritty stint in Arkansas maximum security prison, A-1 didn’t just pick up where he left off—he raised the bar.

This was more than music. It was a battle cry. It was liberation. It was war on wax.

🔥 THE BACKSTORY: STRAIGHT OUTTA LOCKDOWN, STRAIGHT INTO MAKING HISTORY

After surviving years behind bars, A-1 Thee Assas’n—known across the underground and industry corridors as a lyrical mastermind and street intellectual—returned home with a hunger that couldn’t be caged. While many expected him to disappear into obscurity like so many others who get lost in the system, A-1 came out swinging, pen blazing, voice sharpened, and energy supercharged.

The “Assassination Day” project was birthed in Wichita, Kansas, at the now-legendary Polar Studios, operated by his late brother-in-arms, Polar, whose passing only added to the haunting, gritty soul of the record. In just a few short weeks, A-1 laid down tracks that would become urban gospel to a generation of rebels, creators, and hustlers seeking solace and inspiration in a world that often felt unforgiving.

The raw energy captured within those studio walls reverberated with authenticity, showcasing A-1's unparalleled ability to weave stories from the streets into a tapestry of sound that resonated deeply with its listeners. Each lyric was like an echo of lived experience, drawing from struggles and triumphs, inviting fans into a narrative that was both personal and relatable.

The project not only represented A-1’s artistic evolution but also served as a powerful homage to his late business partner and friend. Every note played carried the weight of Polar's legacy, infusing the music with an emotional depth that transcended mere entertainment. As the tracks began to circulate through underground channels, they sparked conversations about identity, resilience, and hope—striking chords in hearts across cities far beyond Wichita.

What set "Assassination Day" apart was its unflinching honesty; it wasn’t afraid to tackle uncomfortable truths or illuminate shadows lurking in society’s corners. This audacity attracted collaborators who shared A-1's vision of authenticity. Together they crafted anthems that would become rallying cries for those marginalized voices yearning for recognition—a movement ignited by passion and fueled by purpose.

As anticipation built around the release, it became an urban culture artifact celebrating unity through adversity. The impact of this project would ripple through time, marking not just another record on the shelf but rather a pivotal juncture in urban music history—a testament to how one man's journey could light the way for countless others navigating their own paths amidst chaos.

💽 THE SONIC MAKEUP: BLOOD ON THE BEATS

With powerful production from underground giants like Slantize, Tristan, LoudRapBeats and others, the Mix-EP didn’t just slap—it assaulted. The sonics on "Assassination Day" move between industrial warfare and soulful desperation, with basslines that rumble like armored tanks and hi-hats that slice like switchblades.

Every track is layered with intention, with true lyricism taking center stage. The wordplay is surgical. The flow is militant. A-1 isn't here to entertain. He's here to educate, eliminate, and elevate.

The project was mixed and mastered by Polar & A-1 Thee Assas'n himself, ensuring that every track was polished to perfection. Their expertise in audio engineering brought a unique depth and clarity to the sound, elevating the overall listening experience. Each element of the music—be it the intricate beats or the layered harmonies—was meticulously fine-tuned, allowing for a rich tapestry of sound that resonates with listeners on multiple levels.

Moreover, the reputation of Polar & A-1 Thee Assas'n speaks volumes within the industry, having worked with numerous renowned artists such as Kokane, Gucci Mane, and Snoop.

With such high-caliber talent behind them, we are confident that this project will not only stand out in a crowded market but also leave a lasting impression on audiences everywhere. It is this commitment to quality and excellence that makes fans excited about every new project that BHM releases.

🎙️ FEATURES THAT MADE HISTORY

What makes “Assassination Day” stand out—besides A-1’s scathing pen and venomous delivery—are the legendary collaborations that bring the project into a broader sonic stratosphere:

Busta Rhymes – The Flipmode General brought raw energy and veteran flair that pushed the stakes even higher.

Chris Brown – His smooth R&B flavor added contrast, giving the EP moments of light between the shadows.

GI Ginn – A-1’s long-time friend and partner-in-rhyme, delivered raw street emotion and unmatched chemistry.

KY The Midwest Marvel – Kansas royalty and lyrical arsonist.

Syke Pachino – A Southern rap vet whose presence added depth and co-sign credibility.

Each feature is a strategic strike—handpicked and perfectly placed. No filler. No fluff. Just flames.

🧠 LYRICAL CONTENT: BULLETS OF TRUTH

From the opening track to the final song, “Assassination Day” is a verbal ambush. A-1 takes you through war zones—both mental and physical. He spits on corrupt systems, broken communities, betrayal, poverty, incarceration, spiritual warfare, and the eternal fight for justice.

But even amidst the bullets and bombast, there’s a deep poetic consciousness to his bars—reminiscent of Nas on “Illmatic” and Scarface on “The Diary.” He’s not just a street poet—he’s a street prophet.

🕊️ POLAR’S LEGACY LIVES ON

Polar’s fingerprints are all over this record—not just in the engineering and production, but in spirit. The late producer’s influence shaped the ambiance of the sessions. Every verse recorded was a memorial. Every snare hit echoed the brotherhood and battles they faced together. Polar’s death shortly after the project’s completion added an eerie finality to the Mix-EP—a stamp of immortality on their last collaboration.

During the time that A-1 & Polar spent together the pair managed to record countless records which are scheduled to be released on upcoming Albums, EP's, and Mixtapes from Black Heart Music Entertainment.

Polar, the leader of the Buck Head Crew (Buck Head Nuff Said), was an amazing recording artist himself and was even one half of the duo Big Boyz along with his friend Mike Leiz. The group was well-known in Wichita and surrounding areas and opened for huge names like Tech N9ne and the rest of the Strange Music family whenever they would come to perform in Wichita. Polar also accompanied A-1 to The West Coast Hip-Hop Awards in 2013, where they performed on stage at the ceremony and at a Portland TV station the previous day. Those were some of the best times the pair had together. Memories that now hurt to reflect on.

Polar's untimely death due to breathing complications was extremely devastating for A-1. Even years later, he still hasn't fully recovered from the anguish of that loss.

During their trip to The West Coast Hip-Hop Awards of 2013, A-1 Thee Assas'n recorded a music video for his song with Kokane titled “Blow My Mind”. Below is the behind-the-scenes footage of that video shoot. Featuring Polar, Moms The Muscle, Austin The P.A., Damon Jamal of In Yo Face Filmworks, and OG Eddie MF Kane, as well as others.

🏆 CRITICAL RESPONSE: THE PEOPLE SPOKE

Upon its release, “Assassination Day” didn’t just make noise—it created shockwaves.

Industry insiders quietly praised the album as one of the most polished underground projects of its time.

Independent blogs and journalists lauded it as “the best mixtape of the decade.”

Street DJs spun it until their Serato libraries burned.

And fans? They declared it sacred.

Even 12 years later, “Assassination Day” continues to dominate conversations in barbershops, comment sections, and studio sessions. Up-and-coming emcees cite it as a major influence. Producers still try to emulate its sonic grit. Fans still memorize every line.

🧨 WHY IT STILL MATTERS

Let’s keep it all the way BHM Certified:

This wasn’t just a comeback project.

This wasn’t just a prison redemption story.

This wasn’t just another mixtape.

“Assassination Day” was a cultural reset.

It represented everything real hip-hop was always meant to be: bold, unapologetic, dangerous, intelligent, and authentic. It re-established A-1 Thee Assas’n not just as a rapper—but as a force, a brand, a conscious movement camouflaged in chaos.

In the era where clout replaced content and autotune replaced attitude, A-1’s “Assassination Day” reminded everyone that the Assas’n never missed.

🚀 WHERE WE STAND TODAY

Now, in 2025, with The BHM Conglomerate flourishing, and Black Heart Music Magazine ready to spotlight the next generation of lyrical assassins, it’s only fitting we revisit the project that started it all. From digital downloads to physical re-releases, limited vinyls, anniversary merch drops, and potential live performances, the legacy of “Assassination Day” continues to evolve.

A deluxe anniversary edition may even be on the horizon—remastered, expanded, and dripping in unreleased verses and rare features. For new fans, it would be a doorway. For the day-ones, it would be a monument.

🩸 FINAL SHOTS FIRED: LONG LIVE THEE ASSAS’N

There are albums, and then there are artillery drops—records that shake the foundation of not just hip-hop, but the culture itself. “Assassination Day” did that. It wasn’t polished for radio. It wasn’t tailored for trends. It was made for warriors, thinkers, and survivors.

It’s a weapon of mass disruption—still locked and loaded.

If you haven’t heard it, you’re living a lie.

And if you have?
Then you know...

“ASSASSINATION DAY” isn’t just an album.
It’s a goddamn declaration.
